Metagov is host to a community of research and practice gathered around Metagov’s vision to describe, support, and expand the right to self-governance online.
Our community discusses ideas and recent research in the field of online governance, hosts seminars featuring internal participants and external guests, convenes space for governance experiments, collaborates with other organizations, publishes research through open access publications and newsletters, and does so guided by our code of conduct.
Our community primarily convenes in the Metagov Slack. If you are interested in joining our community we invite you to fill out our survey (direct link to survey for mobile users). The survey will help us to get to know you better and help give you a general overview of Metagov. Please note that messages in public channels in our Slack are publicly available akin to posts on a public platform such as Mastodon and may be referenced in our newsletters or made available in public exports. Please review our data policy for more information.
As of 2023, we are experimenting with a monthly onboarding cadence. Our hope is that this will allow new folks an opportunity to meet each other, field questions about Metagov or the community, and foster the feeling of entering the community as a cohort.
You will receive a message and meeting invitation approximately two weeks before your group onboarding meeting.
Meetings will take place on the first Wednesday of the month from 11am-12pm Eastern Time, one hour before our weekly Metagov Seminar.
Invitations to the Slack will be sent on the day of the onboarding meeting.
Attendance at the onboarding meeting is encouraged but not mandatory.
You will have an option towards the end of the survey to give Metagov permission to bridge parts of your submission to our public directory of Metagov community members.
